Back on GM diet

Yes back on the diet! This before diwali and yeah after Diwali i will be gettign rid of the sweets that i ate- i am sure to binge on one boondi laddoo, one milk sweet and a peda on diwali! I have a hypothyroid condition and my weight loss will be minimal to normally fit people. There were some questions on the food based on my last blog post.
1) Chicken/mutton as a substitute?
Ans. They are a strict NO-NO! Beef is allowed substitute is only Brown rice is allowed as replacement.
2) Milk substitute?
Ans. Not sure, maybe you can go for banana milk shake! I hate milk too but i make banana milk shake and drink it up. Its tasty even without sugar. Use ripe bananas sugar is not needed at all!!

Day 1:
Morning: Watermelon 1 big bowl + 2 cups of water
Mid Morning: 1 apple + 2 cups of water
Lunch: Musk melon and papaya + 2 cups of water
Mid afternoon: 1 apple + 2 cups of water.
Evening: 3 custard apples-i love them!+ 1 cup of water
Night: i glass of orange juice + 1 cup of water(before and after meal)

Weight before diet: 75kg
Weight loss:1kg---no exercise

Day 2:
Soup of 1 medium cabbage, chickpeas, 5 onions,3 tomatoes in 1 spoon of oil
Morning: One soup serving, 1 salad serving-cucumber n tomato
Lunch: One soup serving, 1 salad serving-cucumber n tomato
Dinner: One soup serving, 1 salad serving-cucumber n tomato

Weight before diet: 74kg
Weight loss:1 kg no exercise

Day 3:
Mixed veggies-palak/spinach and chow chow boiled, salted and tempered with mustard
Brinjal/eggplant bartha with one spoon of oil
Morning: 2 oranges, 1 portion of mixed veggeies and baingan bartha
Lunch: 2 pomegranates, 1 portion of mixed veggies and baingan bartha
evening snack: cheated ona handful of peanuts just salted and roasted without oil
Dinner: not hungry, settling for an orange juice and an apple

Weight before diet: 73 kg
weight loss: 200grams---absolutely demotivating!
The last time too i had no weight loss

Day 4:
Its bananas and milk. I am settling for a galss of milk wiht two bananas.
Morning: 1 banana milk shake, no sugar-1 glass of milk with two bananas-absolutely fills the stomach.
Lunch: banana milk shake-one glass of milk and 2 bananas.
Evening: one banana
Dinner: MIlk shake -1 banana with half glass of milk

Weight before diet: 72.8 kg
weight loss: 700 grams

Day 5:
Today i am not going with beef and tomatoes
I am planning to take one cup of rice with 6 tomatoes-the veg version.
I will make a tomato rice version and have it.
Breakfast: Two tomatoes
Lunch: Tomato rice-presure cooked rice with a lil bit of ginger garlic paste, green cillies and salt with a drizzle of oil
Dinner: two tomatoes
Drink 12 glasses of water without fail!

Weight before diet: 72.1 kg
weight loss:600 grams


Day 6:
Hope i have some weight loss today i am bingeing-with thyroid condition!
I will have to wait for it tomorrow.
By the way the rice i make today is not pressure cooked, the water is drained from the rice after cooking it and that removes all the starch from it!
If you dont want to put on weight with rice, go for basmati rice boil and drain teh water and have the food. The alternate is brown rice, but yeah that means 30 to 40 mins to boil rice and drain the water!
I am going to add some lime jucie w/o sugar today to my diet and will keep sipping it, i am also goinn to add two tomotoes in my cucumber salad for lunch to see if ti realy brings down any weight.
I dont have craving for anything in particular, hmmm a glass of wine....:)....in the eveing with moong dal -haldirams a small katori/bowl/half a tea cup to be exact and one chocolate-small dairy milk! Nowu knwo why i am using lime juice without sugar and tomato-cucmber salad today! ;)
Breakfast: a bowl of fruits-watermelon apple and orange...weird combi!!!
Lunch: Its rice and vegetables
Dinner: Not hungry but will definitely at one banana.

Weight before diet: 71.5---yippeee
weight loss: 300 grams expected

Day 7:
Back to normal food diet, rice , rotis and vegetables.i will be repeating it soon after diwali!!
Planning to get slimmer by xmas and new year! I dont like any other diet this seems to rev up my metabolism! Thyroid didnt have any issues for once with my weight. i ate heartily and never felt worn out!
WIll be back soon. Once weight is nomal i am planning to follow this routine once in two months to clean my system!
weight loss: 100grams--not bad with 100 grams more to reach a 4kg weight loss,i dont mind the weight loss of 3.9kg in a week!

General Motors Diet -GM diet

Hi,
I wanted to loose some excess ways in a huff and tried the GM diet. Finished the diet. Here is what the GM diet does-
General Motors: Weight Loss Diet Program - Non Vegetarian
The following diet and health program was developed for employees and dependents of General Motors, Inc. and is intended for their exclusive use. This program was developed in conjunction with a grant from U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration. It was field tested at the Johns Hopkins Research Centre and was approved for distribution by the Board of Directors, General Motors Corp. at a general meeting on August 15, 1985. General Motors Corp. wholly endorses this program and is making it available to all employees and families. This program will be available at all General Motors Food Service Facilities. It is management's intention to facilitate a wellness and fitness program for everyone.
This program is designed for a target weight loss of 10-17 lbs per week. It will also improve your attitudes and emotions because of its cleansing systematic effects.
The effectiveness of this seven day plan is that the food eaten burn more calories than they give to the body in caloric value.
This plan can be used as often as you like without any fear of complications. It is designed to flush your system of impurities and give you a feeling of well being. After seven days you will begin to feel lighter because you will be lighter by at least 10 lbs. You will have an abundance of energy and an improved disposition.
During the first seven days you must abstain from all alcoholYou must drink 10 glasses of water each day
Day One All fruits except bananas. Your first day will consist of all the fruits you want. It is strongly suggested that you consume lots of melons the first day. Especially watermelon and a loupe. If you limit your fruit consumption to melons, your chances of losing three lbs. on first day are very good.
Day Two All vegetables. You are encouraged to eat until you are stuffed with all the raw or cooked vegetables of your choice. There is no limit on the amount or type. For your complex carbohydrate, you will start day two with a large baked potato for breakfast. You may top the potato with one pat of butter.
Day Three A mixture of fruits and vegetables of your choice. Any amount, any quantity. No bananas yet. No potatoes today.
Day Four Bananas and milk. Today you will eat as many as eight bananas and drink three glasses of milk. This will be combined with the special soup which may be eaten in limited quantities.
Day Five Today is feast day. You will eat beef and tomatoes. Eat two 10 oz. portions of lean beef. Hamburger is OK. Combine this with six whole tomatoes. On day five you must increase your water intake by one quart. This is to cleanse your system of the uric acid you will be producing.
Day Six Beef and vegetables. Today you may eat an unlimited amount of beef and vegetables. Eat to your hearts content.
Day Seven Today your food intake will consist of brown rice, fruit juices and all the vegetables you care to consume.
Tomorrow morning you will be 10-17 lbs. lighter than one week ago. If you desire further weight loss, repeat the program again. You may repeat this program as often as you like, however, it is suggested that you are allowed two glasses of white wine in addition to the instructions on the program. You may substitute champagne for white wine. Under no circumstances are you to drink any other alcoholic beverages with the exception of beer which is allowed. Any liquor (bourbon,vodka, rum) is forbidden. Cream drinks are especially forbidden. You may have an occasional cordial such as creme de menthe or schnapps, but you must always limit yourself to two drinks. If you wine, drink only wine that day. If you have beer, drink only beer that day, etc. Alcohol adds empty calories to your diet. However, after the first week it will help your digestion and settle your stomach.
G.M.'S Wonder Soup
The following soup is intended as a supplement to your diet. It can be eaten any time of the day in virtually unlimited quantities. You are encouraged to consume large quantities of this soup.
28 oz, Water, 6 Large Onions, 2 Green Peppers, Whole Tomatoes (fresh or canned), 1 Head Cabbage, 1 Bunch Celery, 4 Envelopes Lipton Onion Soup Mix, Herbs and Flavouring as desired.
Additional Comments
Vegetables as may be taken in the form of a salad if desired. No dressing except malt, white or wine vinegar, squeezed lemon, garlic, herbs. No more than one tea spoon of oil.
You have been given a recipe for the WONDER SOUP which can be eaten in unlimited quantities. This soup is a supplement while you are on the program and it should be a pleasure to eat. Not everyone likes cabbage, green peppers, calory etc. This recipe is not inflexible. You may substitute vegetables according to your taste. You may add any vegetables you like: asparagus, peas, corn, turnips, green beans, cauliflower, etc. Try to stay away from beans (lima, pinto, kidney, etc.), however, because they tend to be high in calories even though they are very good for you.
Beverages you may consume while on the program :
Water (flavoured with lemon/lime if desired).
Club Soda is OK.
Black Coffee. No cream or cream substitute. No sugar or sweetness.
Black Tea = Herb or Leaf.
Absolutely nothing else except the fruit juices which are part of day seven. No fruit juices before day seven.
How and Why It Works
Day One you are preparing your system for the upcoming programme. Your only source of nutrition is fresh or canned fruits. Fruits are nature's perfect food. They provide everything you could possibly want to sustain life except total balance and variety.
Day Two starts with a fix of complex carbo-hydrates coupled with an oil dose. This is taken in the morning for energy and balance. The rest of day two consists of vegetables which are virtually calorie free and provide essential nutrients and fibre.
Day Three eliminates the potato because you get your carbohydrates from the fruits. You system is now prepared to start burning excess pounds. You will still have cravings which should start to diminish by day four.
Day Four, bananas, milk and soup sound the strangest and least desirable. You're in for a surprise. You probably will not eat all the bananas allowed. But they are there for the potassium you have lost and the sodium you may have missed the past three days. You will notice a definite loss of desire for sweets. You will be surprised how easy this day will go.
Day Five, Beef and tomatoes. The beef is for iron and proteins, the tomatoes are for digestion and fibre. Lots and lots of water purifies your system. You should notice colourless urine today. Your allowance calls for the equivalent of five "quarter ponders". Do not feel you have to eat all this beef. You must eat the six tomatoes.
Day Six is similar to day five, Iron and proteins from beef, Vitamins and fibre from vegetables. By now your system is in a total weight loss inclination. There should be a noticeable difference in the way you look today, compared to day one.
Day Seven finished off the program like a good cigar used to finish off Victorian meals, except much healthier. You have your system under control and it should thank you for the flushing and cleaning you just gave it.


Now my variation Non-veg GM Diet-
Day 1

What i had-
Cantaloupe aka musk melon(kirni pazham), papaya and watermelon were the fruits i binged on. I stuck to the water content of 10 glasses. No coffee, tea, no milk,. I had soem green tea- a bit yuck to start with but ok anything to loose the extra kgs.
Effects-
Some colleagues who were ont he diet with me had onyl watermelon for max weight loss and they ended up getting bad headaches and tiredness. Yes it is a bit tough on the first day, bite your teeth and went on though. I felt worn out, but no headache.
Exercise-
Treadmill -30 mins, stretches another ten minutes.
Weight lost: 1.5kg

Day 2
All vegetables. You are encouraged to eat until you are stuffed with all the raw or cooked vegetables of your choice. There is no limit on the amount or type. For your complex carbohydrate, you will start day two with a large baked potato for breakfast. You may top the potato with one pat of butter.
What i had-
Stuck to cauliflower, cabbage, chinese cabbage, carrot, palak(lots of it but yuck as we cant add dal to make it tastier...jst plain palak with salt and chilli powder) and green peas. All this made with oil like a side dish. I used 3 spoons of oil, chilli powder and salt. I amde the cabbage and the califloer together, chinese cabbage separately and carrot and green peas together.
Note-Only one spoon of oil is advised. If you can eat just raw or boiled vegetables with some salt to taste, thats very good too in fact the best to loose more. I seriously could not eat a full baked potato.
Effects-
Less tired but very hungry as soon as i got back from work. I cheated on one marie biscuit and a hand full of masala peanuts(8 small ones to be exact) today. Went to the loo very often-palak causes this and advise to take soemhting else as it makes u more hungry when ur tummy is empty.
Exercise-
Treadmill-30 minutes, stretches for the sides-love handles(50 in total)
Weight lost: 1kg

Day 3
A mixture of fruits and vegetables of your choice. Any amount, any quantity. No bananas yet. No potatoes today.
What i had-
Stuck to watermelon, apple and papaya. Vegetables had cabbage, carrot and green peas cooked like on day two same amount of oil, 3 spoons.
Effects-
Body got used to the diet a bit. Cheated on two monaco biscuits and again a hand full of masala peanuts. If you can avoid this it would be great.
Exercise-
Treadmill-30 minutes, and some side stretching and leg extensions, 25 each side.
Weight lost: 1kg

Day 4
Bananas and milk. Today you will eat as many as eight bananas and drink three glasses of milk. This will be combined with the special soup which may be eaten in limited quantities.
What i had-
I dont like bananas and milk, but managed to eat around 6 big bananas and 2 tall glasses of milk. Wonder soup my version-use cabbage, cauliflower, carrot and a bit of green peas. Saute it in one spoon of light butter or oil with salt. Then pour in 2 cups of water. I got knorr mixed vegetable soup powder and mixed in three spoons of it to make it taste good.
Effects-
Colleagues on the diet felt the same as well. I felt very full and settled for a big bowl of soup.
Exercise-
Treadmill-30 minutes side stretch and leg extensions (25 each)
Weight lost: 1kg

Day 5
Today is feast day. You will eat beef and tomatoes. Eat two 10 oz. portions of lean beef. Hamburger is OK. Combine this with six whole tomatoes. On day five you must increase your water intake by one quart. This is to cleanse your system of the uric acid you will be producing.
What i had-
I did not cook anything yesterday nite and morning i took a sandwich chilli cheese sandwich...since hamburger is allowed. Had a tomato juice-pureed 4 tomatoes into juice and drank it. Night i will have four more mostly as salad.
Effects-
Not hungry today at all.
Exercise-
Just treadmill had to run for meeting
Weight lost: 0.0kg no wt loss

Day 5 Repeated as the real day 5 did not show weight loss at all...for having the sandwich
What i had- 280 gms beef two sevings. 6-8 tomatoes, only six is advisable.
Effects- Not hungry at all.
Exercise- NO saturdaya nd sunday i dont exercise at all.
Weight lost: 0.800kg

Day 6
Beef and vegetables. Today you may eat an unlimited amount of beef and vegetables. Eat to your hearts content.
What i had- Beef fried in olive oil after cooking it in ginger, garlic, and curry leaves with salt and chilli powder. Carrot and green peas cooked in chilli and coriander powder, salt and water
Effects- Not hungry had brunch.
Exercise- NO
Weight lost:
0.200kg

Day 7
Today your food intake will consist of brown rice, fruit juices and all the vegetables you care to consume.
What i had- basmati rice, watermelon and mango juice
Effects- No hunger
Exercise- NO
Weight lost: 0.300kg

Total loss: Close to 6 kgs. Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

General Motors: Weight Loss Diet Program - Vegetarian
Vegetarian version of GM diet for day 5 and 6

Have low fat paneer, should milk and milk products and the tomatoes. Drink the water as mentioned. Rice puts on weight and is absorbed immediately. Dont let your weight loss program go down the drain....go with milk or a milk product like curd, cheese, paneer, etc., on that day. No sprouts or dals.

Blogging on something with nutritional value- Avocados

Been a while since blogged i decided to blog with good nutrition facts and information on each food i am using with its benefits and few recipes you can try too. my favorite si the guacamole!!!
I had some blood tests doenand realization struck me hard on the face. I have soem serious cholestrol levels to deal with. So what did i import into my present diet--------------?
yeah Avocados and loads of garlic. I started with guacamole preparation for sadwiches and made an indian chutney too. If you need recipes for both just leave a post here ad i would respond. the are good and the use of avocados for sometime i can see a good difference in my cholestrol level...i am on the safer side now.
Avocados contains oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat that helps lower cholesterol. I had a reduction over the total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, along with an 7% increase in HDL cholesterol which is good for health. Avocados have potassium, that helps in lowering high blood pressure and conditions related to the heart. It also contains folate, that is good for heart.
it is also a very concentrated dietary source of the carotenoid lutein; it also contains measurable amounts of related carotenoids (zeaxanthin, alpha-carotene and beta-carotene) plus significant quantities of vitamin E. Since avocados contain a large variety of nutrients including vitamins, minerals, as well as heart-healthy monounsaturated fat, eating a little avocado along with carotenoid-rich vegetables and fruits is an excellent way to improve your body's ability to absorb carotenoids while also receiving other nutritional-and taste-benefits.People allergic to fruits like bananas and chestnuts should not take avocados.
Avocados are one of the highest rated on the World's HealthiestFoods list with the following:vitamin K dietary fiber potassium folate vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) vitamin C copper
Chosing avocados in India. This fruit is easily available in california and other states in the US.A ripe, ready to eat avocado is slightly soft but should have no dark sunken spots or cracks. If the avocado has a slight neck, rather than being rounded on top, it was probably tree ripened and will have better flavor. A firmer, less mature fruit can be ripened at home and will be less likely to have bruises. The avocado available in India has a pebbled dark green or black or greenish-brown skin.
Tips for preparing avocados:Cut the avocado in half lengthwise. Gently twist the two halves in opposite direction if you find the flesh clinging to the pit. Remove the pit. Then peel and slice. If the flesh is too soft to be sliced, just slide a spoon along the inside of the skin and scoop it out. You can prevent the natural darkening of the avocado flesh that occurs with exposure to air by sprinkling with a little lemon juice or vinegar.
A few quick serving ideas:Use chopped avocados as a garnish for soup.Add avocado to tofu-based recipe.Mix chopped avocados, onions, tomatoes, cilantro, lime juice and seasonings for a rich-tasting twist on traditional guacamole.The bread used are subway type breads easily available in the Hot Breads.Spread ripe avocados on bread as a healthy replacement instead of butter or margarine and mayo.For a fruit salad use avocado with fennel, oranges and fresh mint. They also make avocado milk shake with loads of sugar which is not advisable although it tastes wonderful.
Recipes:
Avocado Salad:Prep and Cook Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients: 1 large head lettuce1 large tomato chopped 1 small red bell pepper cut 1/2 small avocado cut into chunks 2 tablesppons coarsely chopped walnuts -optional
Dressing:2 tbsps lemon juice 2 tsp balsamic vinegar extra virgin olive oil to taste Salt and cracked black pepper to taste
Directions: Remove outer leaves of lettuce heads and discard. Cut off tops of leaves and discard. Tops are bitter. Chop remaining inner leaves. Rinse in cold water, and if you have a salad spinner, spin lettuce to dry. If you don't have one, remove as much water as possible in a colander and then dry with paper towels. This will keep the flavor of the salad from getting diluted.Whisk together lemon juice, vinegar, olive oil, salt and pepper in a small bowl and toss with salad greens. Sprinkle with chopped walnuts if desired.Serves 4
Avocado and Shrimp Salad
Prep and Cook Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients: 1/2 kg cooked medium sized shrimp 1 medium sized tomato, seeded and chopped 1 large clove garlic, pressed 2 tbsps fresh lemon juice 1 tbsps balsamic vinegar 1 large firm avocado cut into 1/2 inch cubes 1 tbsps chopped cilantro 1 tbsps chopped fresh mint 2 tbsps chopped pumpkin seeds salt & pepper to taste pinch red pepper flakes extra virgin olive oil to taste 1 head small lettuce
Directions:
Combine all ingredients with shrimp in a bowl except lettuce and mix. Marinate and leave in refrigerator for 15 minutes or more. Serve on bed of chopped romaine lettuce.Serves 4

Steak fillet with Avocado SalsaPrep and Cook Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients: 4 pieces of fillet big in size 1-2 tsp finely minced bell pepper6 medium cloves garlic ¼ cup + 1 tbsps fresh lemon juice 3 tbsps chopped fresh cilantro 8 cherry/small tomatoes1 medium ripe but firm avocado diced into cubes salt and black pepper to taste
Directions:
Mix all ingredients except fillet in a bowl and set aside.Rub fillet with 1 tbsps lemon juice and season with a little salt and black pepper. Take a pan with a spoon of oil and cook for about 3 minutes and turn. Cook for another 3 minutes and remove from pan. This is our Stovetop Searing cooking method. Place on plate, and top with salsa.Serves 4

Looking Good

In this present world where lot of centres are helping one slim down....we feel a bit left out. You can live with dark shades of clothes that make you look slimmer and have a cut that best suits you. But on the long run if you dont start doing anything about yourself you will be down the health line.

Adapting to a lifelong change

Following diets, detoxification, being on a plan is all good enough. But you cannot be on this for your whole life!!! You will go back to your normal lifestyle. Either you can count the calories you have everyday or do exercising. For people who have a better metabolic rate if yu have a great get together outside make sure your evening meal is only fruits or cooked food that is less in fat, calories and carbs...avoid the carbs for sure in the night. Make sure the next day you eat light too....being on detox for a day or two in a fortnight is very healthy for the body!
